Unit 1 Project: Animals in UAE

For this mini-project you will: 1) Make a Padlet about an animal in the UAE. 2) Make a poster about the animal (using powerpoint, keynote, or another image making app.) *** When finished, you will email your teacher your padlet link and a flipsnack link of your poster. Include your ST number and your class number. For your topic, you have two options:

Choose an exotic animal that is held as a pet in the UAE. The text for Animal 1 Picture A must answer these questions: What is the animal’s conservation status? Is it known how many live in the wild? If so, how many? What is the animals natural habitat? What is causing the animal to be endangered? Find a picture of the animal in its natural habitat. What are some countries where the animal naturally lives? What is difference between the animal’s natural habitat and the UAE? Find a picture of the animal in its natural habitat.

Why do you think people care about this animal? Find a picture of that shows the animal’s size, diet, or what makes it unique.	The text for Animal 2 Picture B must answer these questions: What is the animal’s average size? What is the animal's natural diet? What does it eat as a pet? What makes the animal unique? Why do you think people want this animal as a pet? Find a picture of the animal eating or doing something special.
The text for Animal 1 Picture C must answer these questions: What is being done to protect the animal? What do you think the UAE government should do? What could you do to help conserve or protect the animal? Find a picture of the animal being protected or in captivity.	The text for Animal 2 Picture C must answer these questions: Are you for or against people about keeping this animal as a pet? Why? What do you think the government should do about this issue? Why? Find a picture of the animal as a pet.
Part 2: Make a poster  (using powerpoint, keynote, or another image making app.) Include a picture with your poster.
Make poster encouraging people to protect the endanger animal.  Your poster must briefly say: *what makes the animal special *what is the problem/why is it endangered *how can people help.	Option 1) Make a poster encouraging people to keep an exotic animal as a pet. Your poster must briefly say: *what makes the animal special, *what the animal needs to live * why people should have an exotic animal as a pet. Option 2) A poster encouraging people to not keep an exotic animal as a pet. Your poster must briefly say: *what makes the animal special, *what the animal needs to live * what should be done so people will not have these animals as pets.

Save the keynote or powerpoint file as a pdf or jpg then upload it to flipsnack.com You must  register in flipsnack.com   Send your teacher the flipsnack link and the padlet link. Include your ST number and your class number. Troubleshooting: If you accidentally close your padlet window, then search your web browser history for padlet. You will find the link. DO NOT EMAIL  a PDF. Only email a padlet link or a flipsnack link.
