EXAMPLE ESSAY
Introductory paragraph: The diagram gives information about two kinds of large tropical shark, the whale shark and the tiger shark.

Body paragraph 1: The sharks have a number of differences in terms of size, shape, and color. The whale shark is much larger than the tiger shark. It is six meters longer and 8.5 tonnes heavier. It is more than twice as long and weighs 18 times as much as its smaller cousin. Both sharks are blue with a white underbelly as well as similar in shape. However, their skin patterns are different. The whale shark has dots on its body, whereas the tiger shark has stripes.

Body paragraph 2: The sharks are also different in terms of diet, behavior, and conversation status. The whale shark eats very small animals like plankton and krill, whereas the tiger shark has a diet of large sea creatures, such as tuna, dolphins, and turtles. Tiger sharks attack humans because humans are nearly the same size as tiger sharks’ normal prey so they sometimes make a mistake. A whale shark is not very aggressive so that may be a reason why its conservation status is more endangered than the tiger shark.

Concluding paragraph: Overall, it is clear that the whale shark is much larger animal, but it is a gentle giant, whereas the smaller tiger shark is much more dangerous.
