You are an employee of a transportation consulting firm named:

Emirates Transportation Solutions

 

You have been hired by the government to fix a transportation problem in the UAE.

Some options for transportation problems: CHOOSE ONE PROBLEM
Students do not commute quickly and safely enough from home to school.	Businessmen do not commute quickly and safely enough from RAK to Dubai.
Tourists do not travel quickly and safely enough to the top of Jebel Jais.	Drivers are using mobile phones while driving.
Pedestrians cannot safely cross the road.	Personal vehicles are not environmentally friendly.
There are many car accidents.	Parking lots are full.
Petrol use is too high.	Create your own traffic problem

01) Describe the traffic Problem/Why is it a problem? What are three to four consequences/effects that are caused by this problem?

How does this problem affect:                    People’s schedules and productivity?                    The safety of drivers, passengers, and pedestrians?                    The Environment?                    People’s health?

Example: Traffic congestion causes people to feel stressed, which may make them dangerously angry. It also makes people to be late for work or school as well as packages to be late for delivery. Additionally, traffic congestion slows emergency services so fireman and ambulance drivers cannot quickly reach the people they need help. Finally, it wastes fuel, which is bad for the environment.

02) What is the cause of the problem?

For example: Traffic congestion happens because too many cars are on too small of a road (or too small of a bridge, tunnel, parking lot, etc.). [Problem because reason]

03a) Create three (3) solutions to the problem.  You can use the solutions posted on the 10RAK  blog for ideas.  (This task should already be completed from your TitanPad)  Also, remember your essay about the city with the traffic problems. Remember the main questions to consider when improving transportation: Is it more efficient? Is it safer? Is it more convenient? Is it more environmentally friendly? Is it scientifically or financially feasible? Your solutions can be a mix of:                  inventions or different modes of transport.                  rules or policies.                  city engineering projects.

05) Look at Your chart from task 4. Write three sentences comparing your solutions.  (Using the comparative or superlative form: more, less, most, least, same, whereas). Page 147 in listening & speaking book can help you with comparative and superlative.  1. 2. 3.

5 EXAMPLE: 1) Bike lanes are more efficient than speed cameras because people only slow down when they see the camera.  However, bike lanes are always visible. 2. High speed rail is the most futuristic and bike lanes are the least modern. 3) High-speed rail is the most attractive because it is very fast, new, and exciting, whereas speed-cameras make people angry because of paying fines.

06) What is the best solution? Why? Okay

EXAMPLE 6: Public transportation is the best solution to fix traffic congestion because it is the most certain to reduce the number of cars on the road. Although many people do not like to ride the public bus or metro, it is necessary to make public transportation more exciting and attractive because we simply do not have enough room for cars.
